John serves as the Director of the Home Port Hospitality House, which offers US military service members and their families a place to retreat for a homecooked meal, Bible study, and fellowship with believers. The Home Port Hospitality House ministers primarily to the Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam community with a population of more than 107,000.

John was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, and his public schooling was in Ohio and Delaware. His undergraduate degree is in aeronautical engineering from Ohio State University in 1981. He also has an MBA from The University of Phoenix, a MS in National Security Strategy from The National War College, a DBA from The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater as a Phi Kappa Phi inductee, and is currently pursuing an associate’s degree in biblical studies. John served in the US Air Force flying the F-4E, F-4G, F-117, and A-10. He commanded an F-117 squadron and served two assignments at the Pentagon. He has 26 years of active-duty service and an additional 12 years of civil service, both of which were in the US Air Force. He retired from active duty in the grade of colonel (O-6) in 2008 and in the position of a GS-15 in 2021. John and Marcie met while both were assigned to Kadena Air Base on Okinawa, Japan in July 1983 and later married in July 1988.

Marcie was born in Casper, Wyoming, and her public schooling was in Louisiana and Illinois. Her undergraduate degree is in history, with a government minor, from Northeast Louisiana University in 1977 with cum laude honors and was a Phi Kappa Phi inductee. Marcie served in the Air Intelligence field through the rank of captain supporting an F-16 squadron, F-15 squadrons, a fighter wing, and combat air patrol missions over the Sea of Japan for US Navy salvage operations of a Korean Airlines’ aircraft shot down by a Soviet military aircraft in 1983. Marcie separated from active duty, after more than seven years, in 1988 responsible for US Air Force Ballistic Missile Office program security. Marcie homeschooled both their children. Marcie returned to federal government service in 2012 in the Transportation Security Administration. During her service in the Transportation Security Administration, she supervised security operations at airports in Louisiana and completed her service in 2021 responsible for training all Transportation Security Administration officers for five of the seven airports in Louisiana.

Hobbies & Interests: John and Marcie enjoy traveling together and watching college football. Marcie loves to read, and her favorite genres are historical fiction or historical narrative. John likes to study ancient Bible history through roughly 400 AD and do practical academic business research (e.g., books like Good to Great, Great by Choice), study organizational behavior at the micro level (i.e., person-to-person), and read books on leadership (e.g., It’s Your Ship, Extreme Ownership, You Win in the Locker Room, The Winners Manual, The Book on Leadership, Steve Jobs, My Father’s Business, Start with Why, The Trust Edge, Never Split the Difference).
