Alisa Hale

Location: Moscow, Russia

Missionary Agency: Unknown

Alisa’s deep desire to have meaning and purpose in her life led her to mission work. With a focus on evangelism and discipleship, Alisa teaches English as a foreign language to young business people in Russia. In Alisa’s experience, due to the new freedoms of the younger Russian generation, they desire to know more about the West and to learn English. Through this, Alisa is able to introduce her students to the Reformation that spoke into the ideals on which our Western culture is built—namely, the Bible’s message of redemption and the value of the individual made in God’s image, the fairness of God’s justice, and the ultimate happy ending of His heavenly Kingdom. These unfamiliar concepts are fascinating to Alisa’s students. As she works with them, Alisa shares her personal testimony and the Good News of Jesus Christ—the Reason for hope. Many students have accepted the Gospel, and some have made steps to embrace it. Numerous students have become very close friends as Alisa continues, by God’s grace, to disciple them.

Before going into full-time ministry, Alisa worked as a waitress for 15 years while going to school and raising her three children. She graduated from the University of San Diego with a BA in Economics and a minor in Spanish, and was then invited to the Master’s program in Political Science at Texas State University, where she earned her MA in Political Science with a minor in Business. After completing school, she worked for 15 years as a paralegal for labor and employment. After Alisa’s children left home, she attended Dallas Theological Seminary and graduated with a degree in Cross-Cultural Ministry.

Alisa and her husband, Valentin, have a mixed family of six adult children.

Hobbies & Interests: Alisa and Valentin enjoy gardening together, talking about politics, and creating new things to work on around the house. (About her husband, Alisa says, “Valentin is a natural Mechanical Engineer. He can build anything and fix anything. He built our house and put in all the electrical and plumbing himself, and he installed all the pipes and mechanical parts to provide gas throughout the whole house by watching YouTube videos! He’s amazing!”) Alisa also enjoys talking walks in the country, reading stories with happy endings, and seeing the colors of autumn.
