Ideas for Living Missionally

You’re never too young or too old to start loving your neighbors! Check out these simple ideas for different age groups to live missionally by showing God’s love to those around you.

Families With Young Kids (Birth–Grade 5)

  1. Honor first responders by creating a snack basket and writing a thank-you card. Then go together as a family to drop it by your local police station or fire department.
  2. Mission garage sale: Put together all those things you’ve been meaning to clear out of the closets and have a mission garage sale. As a family, decide where the proceeds should go—to sponsor someone going on a mission trip, to support one of our missionaries, to benefit a seminary student, etc.
  3. Take cold bottles of water to a playground or splash pad, and hand them out with a smile. As a family, pray for the people you met.
  4. Get the whole family on bikes or on foot for a tour around your neighborhood. Pray for the people in each home as you pass their house.
  5. Give bottled water or treats to the mail carrier or garbage collector in your neighborhood to show them they’re loved and appreciated.

Middle & High School Students (Grades 6–12)

  1. Write a note of encouragement for a teacher.
  2. Mow lawns for free in your neighborhood.
  3. Bake cookies or cupcakes for the neighbors.
  4. Organize a Block Party for the neighbors on your street.
  5. Donate snacks for the teacher’s lounge at your school.

Adults

  1. Church
    • Pray for one of our Stonebriar-supported missionaries once a week.
    • Watch for ways to give, pray, and serve with our Missional Living programs throughout the year.
    • Join our Pray for the Nations online prayer meeting on the first Wednesday of every month at noon. During each virtual prayer meeting, we will:
      • Feature a missionary our church supports
      • Highlight what God is doing worldwide as the Gospel is shared around the globe
      • Pray for our missionaries and hear opportunities to care for their needs
      • Pray for God to move in all nations and for lives to be transformed
  2. Neighborhood
    Intentionally engage with your neighbors:

    • Help with a neighbor’s yard work.
    • Invite neighbors over for dinner.
    • Take treats to neighbors, or send them a card for a holiday or birthday.
  3. Work
When you see a coworker struggling with something, think of ways to share kindness with them:

    • Sit with them in the break room, engaging them in conversation.
    • Take them to lunch or out for coffee.
    • Bring them a coffee or their favorite snack.
