encouraging fifth and sixth graders to love God and love others

Our Purpose

Junction 56 is a relationship-focused ministry that exists to encourage preteens in the growth of their faith in Christ. Through small groups, discipleship, service, and leadership opportunities, preteens are encouraged to love God and love others by recognizing those who need to be rescued from isolation and pointing them to a relationship with God.

Reaching People on the Fringes Basket Challenge

The Junction 56 Reaching People on the Fringes Basket Challenge has started and will continue through November 22. We challenge each Junction 56 family to reach their neighbors and start an intentional, long-term friendship with a person or family who needs encouragement.

Here are a few steps to get you started:

  1. Pray as a family for God to reveal a person or family in need. (Think of a family who is lonely, overwhelmed, unloved, hopeless, or in financial need)
  2. Brainstorm ways you can bless them.
  3. Make a list of items to gather, make, or purchase for their basket.
  4. Have each member of your family write a letter of encouragement.
  5. Deliver your basket on or before Thanksgiving Day. people in need this Thanksgiving!

Here are some basket ideas: baked goods, gift cards, movies, games, books, a meal, snacks, toys, Christmas toys, an invitation to dinner or games at your house, mittens, drawings, magazines, candles, Christmas ornament, candy, your family’s contact information, coupons for things that would be helpful to them such as raking their leaves or walking their dog.

We hope you’ll take this opportunity to reach people in need this Thanksgiving!

Connecting points for preteens

We’re all about relationships! The best way for preteens to get connected in Junction 56 is to attend our weekly gatherings on Sunday mornings or Wednesday evenings. For special events and additional opportunities, see below.

Wednesday Evening

On Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8 in room B156, we enjoy games, popcorn, worship, large group lessons, and small group interaction. Doors open at 6, and registration is not required. Come see us—we’re having fun!

Sunday Morning

On Sunday mornings during the 9 and 10:45 services, we meet in room B156 to dig deeper into the Bible and strengthen our relationships with God.

Serve with us

Come serve with us!

The main priority of Junction 56 volunteers is to build relationships with a small group of preteens. Specifically, this occurs by consistently serving each week, praying for five to ten boys or girls, and calling or writing them individually once per month. Each week, small group leaders will be sent an e-mail with a discussion guide to help direct their group time as they apply the lesson taught during the large-group gathering.

Please choose to serve during one or more of the following time slots.

• Sunday morning: Fifth or sixth grade from 8:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.
• Sunday morning: Fifth or sixth grade from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
• Wednesday evening: Junction 56 from 6:15 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Time Commitment
The full weekly time commitment is approximately 2 to 2 1/2 hours, which includes some prayer time during the week and an occasional phone call or greeting card.

A love for kids, a growing relationship with Christ, and some basic small group communication skills. We will provide training for working with preteens in small groups: how to keep discipline issues to a minimum, how to lead discussions and prayer time, how to build a team, etc.
