The Hudson Family: Shane, April, and their children, Asher, Benjamin, and Levi

Location: Castelldefels, Spain

Missionary Agency: WorldVenture

Shane and April’s ministry focuses on evangelism and making disciples. They share the Gospel with rock climbers and others in their community and teach disciples in an evangelical seminary.

During their studies at Dallas Theological Seminary, God used their professors to compel them to take the Gospel to a foreign nation. Their internships at Stonebriar Community Church were also fundamental to hearing God’s calling to the mission field. Upon recommendation from a mentor and deeper study of the country and culture, the Hudsons learned that merely one percent of the population of Spain trust in Jesus as their Savior. The total population is about forty-six million. Thus, they feel it is imperative to be active in sharing the Gospel in Spain. Rock climbing provides them easier access into the lives of people who would not normally associate with them. Additionally, Shane and April hope to pass on to the next generation of church leaders the excellent theology and Bible study methods that were shared with them at DTS.

Shane was born in Colorado and grew up in the mountains. April was born in Pennsylvania and grew up in Amish country. Shane studied math at Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO, and grew as a disciple in a small campus ministry. April studied Spanish at Penn State and grew as a disciple in a large campus ministry. They met each other working as high school teachers in a remote, mountain town. They saw God’s providence in their meeting and married soon thereafter. Later, when they moved to Dallas to attend DTS, they initially thought that Shane would study to be a pastor. But God had something else in mind, and both knew that they needed training to become missionaries. Shane’s favorite memory of the time was a three-week span in which he was ordained at Stonebriar, graduated with a ThM from Dallas Seminary, and his first son was born. What an amazing month!

As missionaries to Spain, Shane and April have enjoyed living in Madrid and Barcelona, home of two football powers, but they avoid revealing their favorite team to anyone. All of the family is currently happy to be involved in the competitive climbing scene. Shane is grateful to be doing part-time, postgraduate research on the image of God in 1 Corinthians. The entire family prays for the successful spread of the Gospel in Spain.

Hobbies & Interests: The Hudson family enjoys climbing, reading, building with LEGOs, watching American football, collecting sea glass, hiking, and skateboarding.
