Proclaim your own “independence day”

Two hundred and thirty years ago, America’s founding fathers determined to seek freedom from an oppressive foreign power. Christians today can experience a similar situation.
Although Christ’s death and resurrection freed us from sin’s rule, we still can struggle with addictions and dependencies (Romans 6:6–7, 7:22–23). Yet, like foreign oppressors with no legitimate power, addictions maintain control only when Christians yield to them. Freedom may require a long, difficult battle, but it is possible in Christ.
If you feel bound by addictive thoughts and behaviors, and if you are ready for change, then it’s time to try Discover Freedom. This Christ-centered, confidential, 12-step recovery program invites you to engage with the Lord, His Word, and others who seek freedom from pornography, sexual addictions, chemical dependency, codependency, and various other addictions.
The enemy is finding new ways to infiltrate our lives. The Internet, for instance, has made pornography a ruthlessly persistent temptation in homes and offices. Several Discover Freedom leaders faced that sin and overcame through Christ. So, never think that you are the only one struggling. That is a lie from the enemy, one intended to isolate you and keep you weak and defeated.
Only by seeking the Savior and joining other freedom-fighters can you win the battle. Come to Discover Freedom on Tuesdays, from 7:30–9 p.m., in Room 200-201. We begin with a large-group meeting and then break into men’s and women’s discussion groups. For more information, contact Pastoral Ministries at 469-252-5364 or click here to send an e-mail.
