Missionaries carry Christ’s love south of the border

- A missions team from Stonebriar shared prayer, medical care, and the Gospel with the people of Acua, Mexico.
Fourteen first-time missionaries journeyed to Acuña, Mexico, in June to help run an evangelistic medical clinic. Since 2005, Acuña has been a short-term missions focus for Stonebriar.
Trip participant Su Brick said that she and her 17-year-old son, Andrew, admired the rich relationships among the people in Acuña.
“So many live in extreme deprivation, in makeshift homes of cardboard, cement blocks, or other materials,” she said, “but God has blessed our southern neighbors with sweet and resilient natures. Without all the material distractions, families cultivate relationships with each other. It struck me that God has blessed them in an enviable way.”
The Stonebriar team partnered with a group from Hill Country Bible Church in Austin to run a weekend medical clinic. With the aide of nurses, they provided basic medicines, pregnancy tests, and health tests for conditions such as diabetes.
“It is a joy to help families who never see a doctor get medications for infections or vitamins for children,” Billbrick said. In addition to medical care, the team prayed with and presented the Gospel to individuals and families.
Brick encouraged people not to think that missions is only for “super-Christians.”
“We are not saviors,” she said. “We’re only volunteers who love the Lord and pray that He uses us to share the Good News and show Christ’s love while helping meet physical needs.”
Apparently, the team was a good tool in God’s hands. Some 300 people were treated at the clinic, and four placed their faith in Christ.
