Parent's Corner
March 6
Dear Parents of Preteens,
I think they did it. I believe we’ll have more than 66 preteens (“66 books of the Bible”) who read the Word every day since February 5.
But I need your verification! The contest ended on Monday, so please reply to Lauren Newport with your preteen’s name and the word “Yes”! She’ll keep track of the names, hoping we hit 66! LaurenN@Stonebriar.org
I’ll email those who won the contest, and let them know if I’ll be wearing the Jct. 56 Man costume at Walmart or at Stonebriar Mall (and the time and place to meet me . . . probably around 4:45 pm on Wed – but we might have to do it later in the week).
I’ll also be wearing the costume all day at the office this Wednesday. And it’s an “All Staff” meeting day . . .with Pastor Chuck.
IF I’m still employed by the church, I hope to see all of you at the Tea & Talent Night that same evening: 6:30 pm – 8:15 pm. Please come early if possible, so you can meet your preteen’s small group leader, and browse the World Vision booth, and enjoy some gourmet popcorn!
A few other announcements:
· Please email LaurenN@Stonebriar.org if your preteen is a believer, but has not been baptized yet. We will hold baptismal classes on May 8 and 15, in preparation for the actual baptisms on May 20 – Sunday, at 1:00 p.m.
· Jeanne Pierre Francois Blanchard invented the parachute! And you know how he tested it? With a dog! He put Man’s Best Friend in a basket equipped with his invention and then dropped it from a hot air balloon. Just out of curiosity, I wish I could’ve had lunch with him, and asked, “Why a DOG? When there are too many CATS in the world already?”
· We’re opening up 21 more spaces for adult sponsors for Junction Night at the Ballpark (May 18), and we still have room for 49 additional preteens. If your preteen would like to join us for all-you-can-eat hot dogs, brats, nachos, and Dr. Pepper products, PLUS a free baseball cap and great seats! – register today at http://www.stonebriar.org/get-connected/preteen/preteen-registrations/
· Announcing JUNCTION GEAR! In order to promote the ministry, and hopefully attract more preteens who need Christ, we’re going to start offering various articles and clothing with our Junction logo on them. The store will be open Wednesday nights before and after The Junction. We’ll try to sell them as close to “at cost” as we can, but if any profit is made, the proceeds would go entirely to the preteen ministry. Here are a few samples of what we’ll be offering:
o Pink Wallets - $5
o Red Drink Cups- $5
o Journals - $3
o Hoodies - $25 (these will be a pre-order)
o Real Man Coins - $10
o Godly Woman Key Chains - $10
o AND MORE!
On another note, I wanted to let y’all know that I’ve been serving at SCC for almost 7 years now, and the church has a wonderful policy of allowing a 7-week sabbatical at this time for all full-time pastors. Mine begins right after Tea & Talent Night . . . from March 8 to April 26. I’ll be “refreshing my soul”. . . spending time in the Word and in prayer and meditation and improving my golf swing. We are blessed with very capable Bible teachers as ministry partners in Junction – and I can assure you that your preteens will be fed a very healthy diet of solid biblical instruction.
I might send a parent email or two while on sabbatical, but then again – maybe not. I really enjoy communicating with you, but it might remind me of “work” . . . (shudder). If you need any questions answered, please email Preteen Ministry Assistant Coordinator Jennifer Withers - jlw0327@yahoo.com or Children’s Ministry Assistant Lauren Newport – LaurenN@Stonebriar.org
Blessings to y’all, and thank you so much for your prayers and support!
Joe
