Frequently Asked Quetsions for VBS 2017
1. What are the dates and times of VBS? When can I register?
June 12-16, 6 to 8:30 p.m. You may register online beginning March 26 on our website, www.stonebriar.org/summerkids.
2. May I register my child the week of VBS?
Yes, but is dependent on available space.
3. What is the cost?
The cost is $5 per child.
4. What is included in that cost?
$5 per child includes 4 nights of super fun activities, snacks, crafts, games and more. PLUS it includes a admission for your whole family to our Friday "SuperHero Rescue Mission" family Experience.
5. May I register my preschooler?
Children who will not be 5 by September 1, 2017, may attend only if their parent or guardian is serving Monday through Thursday of VBS. Preschool children in this category can be registered at the volunteer registration link.
6. How old must my child be to attend?
They must be 5 by September 1, 2017 to attend the Entering Kindergarten age group. The elementary age group is for children who have graduated Kindergarten through 5th grade by Texas public school age standards.
7. What is there available for my 5th grader?
We have a program designed for graduated 4th and 5th graders that will be exciting and age appropriate.
8. Can my child be placed in a group with their friend?
Yes, as long as the request is made ahead of time, your child may be with their friend. We will make grade accommodations also as long as the grades are close. For example, we will place a 2nd and 3rd grader together upon request, but not a Kindergartner and a 3rd grader. We try to accommodate all friend requests, but cannot guarantee them. We will not place a graduated 3rd grader in the 4th and 5th grade program. We will not place a preschool child in the elementary area.
9. Do you include Special Needs children in your program?
Yes. We include them through a buddy system. Please check the Special Needs box on your child’s form. Your child will be place with a buddy and the parent will be contacted prior to VBS with the name of the buddy assigned to their child.
10. What are the requirements to serve, and how do I sign up?
Members and regular attendees may volunteer (you do not have to be a member), and must complete a Release Authorization for a background check, the Children’s Ministries Application, and registration form. Follow the link below to complete to volunteer application and background screen authorization:
11. If I want to be a Special Needs buddy, what do I do?
You do not have to be currently serving as a Special Needs buddy or with the Special Needs ministry to serve as a buddy for VBS. Check the Special Needs box as the area of interest on the VBS volunteer form. You will be contacted prior to VBS to let you know who you will be assigned to and for any training you may need to assist the child.
12. Can my youth-aged child serve, and how old must they be?
If your child has completed 6th grade, and is either currently serving in Children’s Ministries through our YES! Program (Youth Engaged in Service), or will be serving with you (their parent) during VBS, they will be placed on a first-come first-served basis. All youth who are not currently serving in Children’s Ministries will need to complete a YES! application and interview with the Youth Volunteer Coordinator.
13. Do I need to serve the whole week, or can I just serve one or two days?
We need a commitment to serve the entire week. If it is unavoidable for you to be here the whole week, we may be able to work with you on a case by case basis, but due to the structure of our program, we need each volunteer to be there every day.
14. If I cannot serve every day, may my preschooler still come?
You preschooler may only attend if you are serving. If there is space, and we are able to use you for a few days, then your preschooler may attend only the days you are here.
15. If my friend is serving may they bring my preschool child?
No. Preschool classrooms are only open for the children of those who are serving at VBS the entire week of VBS.
16. Will my preschool aged child’s classroom use curriculum?
Yes. Children from 18 months and up will be using curriculum that follows the week’s theme.
17. How do I get a t-shirt?
You may purchase a t-shirt for your child on Sunday mornings: May 28 and June 4, and 11. Whatever t-shirts are remaining will be sold during the week at VBS. T-shirts will not be available for online purchase. T-shirts are $10. All t-shirts are available on a first come first served basis. Adult and youth volunteers who are serving the entire week of VBS will receive a volunteer t-shirt at no charge while supplies last.
18. Can my friend pick up my child?
Yes, but they need to be on your child’s registration as approved for pick-up. They will need to show proper ID to the child’s teacher/leader before they may pick up your child.
19. What about snacks? How do you handle food allergies?
We serve no snacks with nuts. However, we do not guarantee that snacks are not made in a facility that uses nuts. If your child has severe allergies, and you are concerned about the snacks they may receive, we recommend that you provide their snack each day.
