Volunteer Information

Awana would not be possible without the over 200 necessary committed volunteers who serve each week in a variety of roles.  We would love to have you join us on Sunday nights to partner with us to teach His Kids to know, love and serve our Lord Jesus Christ!

Descriptions of the different Awana roles available are listed below.

Returning Awana Volunteers

If you have served with us in Awana previously, have you thought about recruiting a friend?  You, our faithful returning ministry partners, are our best recruiting tools.  Think about someone that you could ask to serve alongside you this year!  Double the fun by serving with a friend!

Please update your personal information and let us know where you would like to serve this year by registering as an Awana volunteer.

Registration for 2011-2012 is currently closed. Open registration will begin June 1.

New Awana Volunteers

  1. Complete ProjectServe Application and Background Authorization

As part of our Child Protection Policy, all adult volunteers new to Children's Ministry at Stonebriar must fill out a ProjectServe/Children's Ministry Application and a Background Authorization prior to serving.  If you have not previously fulfilled this requirement, please click here to visit the ProjectServe website to do so.  Please make sure to indicate that you are interested in serving with Awana on the ProjectServe application.

If you are under age 18 and interested in serving as an LIT, please click here to fill out a youth application (if you have never done so).  Background checks are not required for youth volunteers.

If you have previously filled out an application and background check, please proceed to step two.

  2. Register as a Awana Volunteer

Read the descriptions listed below of the available roles to serve within Awana.  If you have questions about any of these positions, please contact Crystal Kirsch, Awana Commander, at 469-252-5530.

Registration for 2011-2012 is currently closed. Open registration will begin June 1.

Description of Awana Roles

Small Group Leader

An Awana small group leader shares responsibility with several other adults for a specific group of children, building relationships with them, taking them to their different rotations within Awana, and listening to and explaining their memory verses. An emphasis is placed upon mentoring and discipling the clubbers. Small group leaders are needed for every age group, from two years old through eighth grade. Training is provided.

Leader-in-Training (Youth)

An Awana LIT (Leader-in-Training) is a youth helper who assists the Small Group Leaders with a specific group of children, building relationships with them and taking them to their different rotations within Awana. LIT’s are needed for every age group, from two years old through sixth grade. Training is provided.

Verse Listener

These ministry partners listen to children recite memory verses they have learned in their handbooks. Verse Listeners may be assigned to a single small group for the entire Awana year or might “float” to other small groups as help is needed. Frequency of service can be weekly or bi-weekly.

Secretary

This ministry partner serves as a part of each club's leadership team.  Secretaries are responsible for maintaining accurate record-keeping and inventory, as well as other administrative-type duties for the different Awana clubs.  Secretaries are currently needed in Sparks.

Games

Game Director - This ministry partner leads a weekly game time for one of the following Clubs: Cubbies, Sparks (kindergarten–second grade), T&T (third–sixth grade), or Trek (seventh–eighth grade).  The Game Director plans activities and games for two identical 30 minute rotations. Training, a book of Awana games, and equipment is provided.  The Game Director helps provide discipline, excitement and enthusiasm for this fun segment of the Awana evening.  Training is provided.  A Game Director is currently needed for Cubbies.

Assistant Game Director - This ministry partner assists a Game Director in leading a weekly game time for one of the following Clubs: Cubbies, Sparks (kindergarten–second grade), T&T (third–sixth grade), or Trek (seventh–eighth grade) kids.  The games are planned by the Game Director and provided for the volunteer.  Asst. Game Director helps provide discipline, excitement and enthusiasm in the running of this fun segment of the Awana evening.  Asst. Game Director might run games in the absence of the regular Game Director. Training is provided.  Asst. Game Directors are currently needed for all clubs.

Large Group

Teacher - This ministry partner creatively presents a Bible story to children in one of the following age groups: preschool, kindergarten–second grade, third–fourth grade, fifth–sixth grade, or seventh–eighth grade. Volunteers are needed to teach weekly or occasionally. In most cases, curriculum is provided.  All of these positions are currently filled.

Worship Leader - This ministry partner leads worship during the Large Group segment of the Awana evening.  Worship Leaders are currently needed in 3rd/4th Grade T&T and Trek.

Arts & Crafts Helpers

Volunteers are needed to help prepare arts and crafts activities (cutting, copying, gathering, sorting and organizing supplies) that correspond with the Cubbies and Puggles curriculums.

Check-In

This ministry opportunity serves families by helping them easily and quickly check in their families for Awana on Sunday evenings. The Check-In Assistants need to arrive approximately thirty minutes before Awana begins. Training on the check-in system is provided.  Currently, 5 more volunteers are needed.

Awana Store Helper

Ministry Partners are needed once per quarter to help set up and run our Awana Store.  Volunteers manage a table of items and help children of various ages spend the Awana shares (money) that they have earned from completing their handbooks and memorizing scripture.  The dates for 2011-2012 are October 23, 2011; December 11, 2011; March 4, 2012; April 29, 2012.  The time commitment on these nights is from 4:00-7:00 p.m.  Currently, 25 volunteers are needed.

Special Events Helper

Ministry Partners are needed to help with Awana special events.  Activities could include photographing club nights and special events, setting up for special theme nights, leader appreciation, Awana Movie Night, Grand Prix, AwanaGames, Bible Quiz, and other activities. Time commitment can be as little as two to three hours depending on the project.

Substitute Small Group Leader

Subs are needed when a regular Small Group Leader is absent.  If you are willing to fill in for a leader on an as needed-basis, please register above as an Awana volunteer and designate "Substitute Leader" as the position of interest.  Subs are not required to purchase a t-shirt, and are encouraged (but not required) to attend training.
