It is more people's views than anything else, but we wouldn't have hired these folks if they didn't agree with the core beliefs we hold true. Mission’s Trip To Maputo
July 9th 2008 No comments yet
London, Heathrow Airport
We’ve completed the first leg of our two-day journey from Dallas to Maputo, Mozambique, and are resting in the British Airways (BA) lounge at Heathrow. Tonight we’ll fly overnight to Johannesburg, South Africa and then on to Maputo. We arrive there Monday afternoon (Maputo is seven hours ahead of Dallas). We’ve got seven hours to kill at Heathrow. Thankfully I’ve flown enough miles to have privileges at the BA lounge.
On this trip I’m traveling with George Simon, Gene Short and Joe Harms. SCC has established a working relationship in Mozambique with Isaias Uaene, a former student of mine at DTS. Isaias is the Director of the Center for Leadership Development (CDL in Portuguese). CDL exists to train Christian leaders who will take a variety of roles in churches and ministries throughout Mozambique. Our desire is to help CDL establish sources of financial support in Mozambique through small businesses and fee-based schools. George, Gene, and Joe have experience in business and in Christian schooling that are very valuable to our project.
Historically, ministry training programs have a difficult time establishing local financial support. That means the leaders of such programs have to spend extensive time in the US and Europe seeking financial support. We believe that it would be healthier for the CDL program in the long run if it had local sources of financial support. Our goal for these first few years of our work in Mozambique is to explore developing businesses to provide this local financial support. On this trip we’ll be meeting with local businessmen and leaders of international schools to see what the possibilities might be. Please pray for wisdom as we meet several leaders throughout the week.
